Abstract

Succession management is a topic which has brought about much controversy in mainstream business and government leadership. Organizations expend insurmountable financial resources and human capital in order to ensure that succession is planned and executed flawlessly —at least on the executive level. After all, much depends on the leadership of an organization.

However, in the same way that organizations often create silos for their different business ventures that result in a lack of strategic alignment and possible long-term failures, they also create those same silos within the respective functions of their organizations. In the case of succession management, little attention is paid to the possibilities that are created by using the most basic forms of workforce management and talent acquisition techniques.

In this article I hope to provide a simple yet effective framework to augment organizations’ succession management programs through the use of long-established talent acquisition methods.
